This is a self-inflicted problem. If anything you should point the finger at yourself.

Also, set up your own goddamn panel if you dont like it.

As a cis white gay Jew from a Lutheran patriline, I too have often been called to represent My People in one way or another, here and again. It’s kind of fun pretending to be the ambassador from the Gayness or explain to my cousins “what Jews think about X”, but seriously wtf. It still surprises *me* when I hear some of the shit other parts of the Tribe gets up to in the next state over. How the hell am I supposed to be an expert on Judaism or queer theory just because I like cut dick?

Fuck. I feel that nonsense. Srsly wtf people. If I was OP I’d tell them all, just grow the fuck up and think for yourselves, at least once in your goddamn life.

As a woman who has been included in so many ‘diversity’ panels in my (yes, mostly male-dominated until recent) field, and ended up asking to be taken off of them because they stress me the *fuck* out- this.

As a black man I do think about this when I attend conferences, etc. and recently was inspired by seeing a black executive from a massive southern company speak on a panel. Though I was certainly surprised, because I don’t see that often (ever) at the panels and events I attend.

Pro tip for people going to their first conference, don’t wear white dress shirt and black dress pants together. People will think you’re part of catering instead of a speaker.

This sound like somethin a black guy on a panel about diversity would say

Tech trade show panels:”why won’t black people work for us.”

Also trade show panels: “Tyler, Braden, and Kyle are here to discuss the exciting innovations in our CRM solutions”

This! I’m an Animal Scientist and people always want to talk about diversity in agriculture. I just want to talk about dairy cattle management and coo over cross calves.

This would honestly be a nice. It’s ridiculous at work constantly spouting about diversity and inclusion nonsense that they don’t mean. Been there for 3 years and they just hired this black guy this month. And now they’re having a culture class on Thursday using us as center pieces because they now have 1 1/2 black guys in their demographic..

Yeah as a black guy that works in tech, I went to my companies town hall meeting and somehow found myself in 70% of all photos posted online about our meeting.

No doubt my company is using my pictures to make us seem more diverse than we are even though I am the solo black guy LOL. I ain’t cheesed tho.

I’d rather talk about video games than about race. But somehow, if I’m talking to white people, they manage to bring it back to race.

I have a friend who is very well versed in hockey and heavy metal music (amongst other things). I love when people look at him and they’re shocked because stereotypes are shitty. They figure he listens to rap and watches basketball… then he drops this knowledge on you.

Ten to fifteen years ago it was totally understood when “the first African American to” was an important distinction. Today, just how about they won the award cause they were the damn best at what they did.

[CollegeHumor last month did a sketch on this very thing](https://youtu.be/8IFR2ApwRR4)[!](https://youtu.be/8IFR2ApwRR4) (replace woman with black)

The irony in this post is that most, almost all, of the politically charged post on the sub, the subject matter revolves around race and diversity.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, but never really put much thought into it before.

This, but also for women! I can’t remember the last time I saw anything featuring a woman doing something typically male without the majority of the questions being along the lines of “so, getting into boxing/engineering/NASA as a woman must be been really tough.”

True equality will be when their gender isn’t mentioned because it just kinda isn’t relevant for the most part.

as a white guy who thinks about this somewhat often, we wanna hear your opinions on everything, too. it’s a little weird to me watching almost only white people in The 11th Hour, for example.
