Remember my children. If a homosexual asks you to bake them a cake, tell them to leave because being nice to them would make me very mad and I might punish you for eternity.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Attaining heaven is the telos of Man. Fear of Hell is a good start.

What is wrong with lust for heaven? I do good because I desire for the kingdom of heaven to be exhibited on earth and to bring more people into it, period. Doing good just for the sake of “doing good” is a meaningless phrase, will never truly motivate anyone to be good, and will burn with the rest of the earth if it isn’t for the purpose of building God’s kingdom. but maybe I’m just overthinking a meme

Christians: Atheism is flawed because without heaven and hell there’s no reason to be a good person

It is impossible to take God aside where doing *good* deeds, because if there would be no God there would be literally no tools to distinguish *good* from *evil*, how would one define good and evil then? Would what most people yhink is good be good? Why? Would it be what produces “gain”? How do you measure gain? Why gain is good and loss is evil? Etc…

I agree with this message,
but isn’t [Matthew 6:1](https://biblehub.com/matthew/6-1.htm) just about not doing good deeds for the clout of man?
I don’t think that verse has anything to do with fear of hell or lust of heaven.

This reminds me of a story about Rabia of Basra, a Sufi mystic: (taken from wikipedia)

One day, she was seen running through the streets of Basra carrying a pot of fire in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. When asked what she was doing, she said,”I want to put out the fires of Hell, and burn down the rewards of Paradise. They block the way to Allah. I do not want to worship from fear of punishment or for the promise of reward, but simply for the love of Allah “

> Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.
