  1. On a relevant note, Film used to not pick up dark skin well either. It wasn’t until the 1970’s that Kodak made a film stock that could pick up darker skin tones. Also this wasn’t due to them wanting to be more inclusive, this was due to furniture and food companies complaining that you couldn’t tell the real color of wood or chocolate in photos, making dark skinned people visible was just a happy accident.

I assume the less light reflected off your skin the harder you are to see to a camera. This accidentally
    makes robots racist.

    Edit: some typos fixed

  2. The datasets on which the AI is trained are composed of overwhelmingly / exclusively of white people images … The AI doesn’t identify black people as person because it didn’t learn that in the first place

  3. I sincerely hope that it’s satire and the media hasn’t resorted to reaching THIS much to find racism in everything.

  4. It’s actually fairly well established that AI is racist. AI learns from human input, so whatever biases we have are amplified by the AI.

  5. On a side note, iRobot was a fun movie to watch, at least for me. I look forward to whatever memes come out of this
