Eric Garner wasn’t even accused of selling loose cigarettes that day. That was an old charge they dug up after the fact.

Yeah as an Australian I look at your country like you look at Brazil, or the Phillipines, or Iran.

Just falling down from order into chaos through a fascist, religious, dogmatic, tribalistic, propaganda fuelled clusterfuck. Your only hope now is to stay educated and fucking vote.

Godspeed. Oh, and maybe get rid of your FPTP voting system while you’re there, it’s shit.

Which is the correct one? I mean, shouldn’t all arrests be handled in the most peaceful way possible?

Why would anyone think that a cop in New York and a cop in El Paso would be trained the same or react the same to two totally different situations?

Diffrent departments treat people diffrently. Diffrent people treat others diffrently , I have never had a bad encounter with EP police.

I wonder if the shooter resisted arrest ?

Police is not a team of cut and past unit mobs in a video game. Individual people, have Individual responses. You can not say that if the cops where reversed that the El Paso guy wouldn’t of been shot dead, and the cigarette guy still be alive.

Its the difference resisting arrest does.

I know I’ll get downvoted to oblivion, but do people realize cops can’t beat people up based on the crime they committed? If everyone simply turned around and put their hands behind their back when under arrest, every arrest would go the exact same way.

A child rapists that gets caught and cooperates, just gets arrested.

A person with a simple traffic warrant that resists arrest, gets thrown to the ground and looks a lot worse on video.

Pictures like this come up every time someone gets peacefully arrested after committing terrible crimes, but the crime doesn’t matter. It’s the attitude after the crime that does.

If you get arrested, whether you believe it’s a legal or illegal arrest, don’t resist. Have your day in court.

Good thing the shooter didnt resist arrest.

No one talking about the fact that Eric Garner kept resisting even when the situation kept getting worse. The El Paso shooter surrender as soon as the police found him.

The officer who did the choke hold is a piece of shit but resisting arrest just escalates a problem.

Also the police that did it, still free, to choke another!

To make matters worse, Garner didn’t even have any loosies on him – he was SUSPECTED of selling them.

I think the sadder take away is that Trumps Twitter acted as fuel for the shooting and now President Jackass is trying to act like he and his administration dont spread hate or fear of immagrants. I used to hate Democrats as much as Republicans until Donald Trump. Now I’m a Democrat. Thanks Trump 👏👏👏

Eric Garner was killed with an illegal choke hold, extrajudiciously, with absolutely no evidence, for “resisting” arrest by refusing to give up his constitutional rights in an illegal search / arrest.

Do you really think they were going to be fair to him if he did comply?

“Selling loose cigarettes” was written in the police report and reported by media, which makes it highly doubtful.

By the way, the person who recorded Garner’s last moments, for which this image of Eric Garner is a still from his video recording, was thrown in jail on trumped up charges and is being abused by the legal system to this day.

For real though, so many people saying the police should have gunned down the shooter. What if they had the wrong guy? It literally happened DURING the El Paso response. They detained an armed vet who was trying to help, thinking he was a/the shooter. Y’all want them to have shot him too? On suspicion? Cops on the right are doing it right. Cops on the left escalated force unnecessarily.

And here I thought cigarettes caused a slow death.

IIRC, the shooter laid down his gun and gave himself up, much different from Garner. I’m not justifying the way the cops handled Garner, but they’re different scenarios with different cops. It’s dumb to try and fit every situation into the same bucket with so many different variables at play

He was not resisting arrest. Cops treat resisting arrest like murdering their entire family, raping their babies and burning down their house. If you dont resist arrest, you can kill america and still be arrested without a scratch.

CoreWaterDrinker

How about the fact this has absolutely nothing to do with the situation they are in. I truly dont understand when the world turned to be completely ok with resisting arrest.

Ignorance is high today.

Wow what a way to take context out of pictures.
Regardless of if your point is valid this is a horrible representation of it.

Before i say what I’m about to say, what happen to eric Garner was a horrific crime and the officers involved should all be in jail right now.

That said, it’s a bit misleading to simply compare those two pictures based on the crimes committed without any context . Eric Garner is reported to have violently resisted arrest. Presumably, the El Paso terrorist threw his gun down and surrendered peacefully.

There is NO EXCUSE for officers to use excessive force in an arrest, but the lesson i take from this is that if the police try to arrest you – even unjustly – simply cooperate. Let them arrest you and then sort it out later.

It’s sad that citizens have to be more level-headed than the police, but I’d rather be treated a little unjustly, but be alive, than risk being killed by escalating the situation.

Every incident is different. There are also a lot of incidents of black mass shooter being brought in alive and white people getting killed. No eric garner should not have been harmed in anyway, but every incident is different.

Maybe it’s because one resisted and the other didn’t? You are just a suspect until proven otherwise.
