The Hallmark Christmas movie paradox: If you have seen only one of them, you have seen all of them.

You arent wrong, but they are still fun to watch. Generally no one dies, the humor, while not ‘funny’ is generally not cringeworthy either, and the one big name in each film often does a good job making it feel like a worthwhile movie.

woven? more like bashed into, even though it makes absolutely no sense with the rest of the plot

Hallmark movies always have these actors that vaguely resemble famous people. My wife will be watching one and I’ll be like, “Oh, this one has not-Reese Witherspoon and not-Blake Shelton in it.” It’s like they only cast people you might mistake for someone people actually know at a glance.

Christmas movie that transcends all these cliches and still delivers: Die Hard

And no, you’re never too old for this.

What about Jingle all the way? That had the Governator in it and I’d say it was fairly generic. That entire phase of him making children’s movies was weird as hell

The gazebo with Christmas lights and snow where they kiss makes me sad. I wish she still loved me…

It’s that magical time of year, time for the The Hallmark Movie Drinking Game

Drink:

1. Reference to a dead relative
2. Main character’s name is related to Christmas (Holly, Nick, etc.)
3. Any time someone disses fake Christmas trees
4. A newcomer partakes in old family or town tradition
5. Hot chocolate, apple cider, egg nog is on screen
6. A big city person transplanted to small town
7. Christmas caroling, tree farm, or baking cookies appears
8. Mistletoe is on-screen
9. A character makes a magic deal with Santa or an angel
10. Any time you hear “Jingle Bells”

Two Drinks:

11. Characters experience a ‘near-miss’ kiss

12. Obvious product advertisement appears

13. Snowball fight or ice skating happens

14. An ugly sweater or tie appears on-screen

15. Characters are snowed-in

Finish Your Drink:

16. The cynic is filled with Christmas spirit

17. It snows on Christmas

Take a shot:

18. The movie stars Candace Cameron-Buré or Lacey Chabert

The sassy grandma or mother.

The snarky and quirky Zach Galafianakis knockoff brother with a beard and ironic ugly Christmas sweater.

The fast paced boujee woman from LA who thinks Christmas is silly and a waste of time and the family’s traditions are childish bumpkin behavior. She will end up full of Christmas spirit by the end of the movie.

Homeless man or mall Santa who might or might not be the real thing with a sly wink or display of magic to the kid that nobody else noticed.

Busy dad who is totally stressed about work or work deadline and optional Scrooge-esque demanding boss being a complete dick the whole movie only to change his tune at the end.

Big city with gorgeous Christmas decorations and story book levels of snow and seemingly everyone completely invested in the Christmas spirit.

The kids mom is divorced and wants to be in a relationship with a cool but average guy, who has nothing wrong going for it, but somehow at the end of the movie both parents remarried again and the other dude turns out to be an asshole this whole time but the plot never required him to be one in the first place.

And also, also don’t forget the family dinner with everyone saying “merry Christmas” to each other and how it normally goes on for like 10 minutes

Turns tv on during a brisk December Sunday morning.

“I’ll just see what this one is about.”

Watches twelve hours straight.

It’s strange that those are so mediocre but I still like them, they give me a nostalgic feeling.

Woman starts off single until her sassy black friend (either a woman or a gay man) says “mmm girl you need a man” and she falls in love with Generic Greg who works at the Office where he can’t see his daughter even though his wife died. She then gives up on all of her dreams to be his wife even though they only communicate through holiday montages with generic pop covers of Christmas songs.

You forgot to add that they obviously film in the summer and add fake snow to the leaves. Once you see it in Christmas movies, you can never unsee it.

Santa is real but the adults don’t believe in him even though they wouldn’t have an explanation for all of the shit that appears under their tree.

Don’t forget about those awful in-laws visiting from out of town that no one can stand or the wacky aunt/ uncle. At some point they see eye to eye with the protagonist.

And finally some sort of tragedy that is turned into a blessing because every one had the Christmas spirit all along.

My fiance and I have been talking about making bingo cards for these movies as they are a guilty pleasure of ours. Would also add:

-Bad guy wears a suit (works in finance or banking)
-Good guy works with his hands
-City=bad, small town= good trope
-Arbitrary Christmas deadline
-Struggling small business saved by last second good news
