Why would you make something so accurate yet so uncomforting?

I prefer small groups in person, then trying to reply to a classmates discussion post on blackboard.

It’s pretty annoying when you’re the only social one as well. You’ll talk and try to start something but just crickets…

This was the running theme in business school. I swear it was like this in every class. Professor gives lecture for 30 mins then asks class to get in small groups and talk among themselves. Everyone would pull their desks together in small groups and look at each other awkwardly for like the next 30mins. Professor will ask everyone to come together as a class and discuss what the group talked about among the case studies or whatever we read.

Crickets

Way too relatable! This was me until just a few years ago. For those who find themselves in this situation, I recommend breaking the ice by asking an open-ended question (hint: it doesn’t matter if you know the answer). That, or summarize what you know about the material and ask a question about what you don’t understand.

If nothing else, you’ll spare yourself the awkwardness of the teacher checking in on a totally silent group.
